Job Summary

• Responsible for the collection, decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment
• Supports surgical services and hospital units by ensuring the availability of sterile instruments and supplies while adhering to regulatory standards
• Works under the guidance of a certified technician or supervisor while completing certification requirements

Essential Functions

• Collect and decontaminate used instruments and equipment
• Inspect and assemble surgical instrument sets
• Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment safely
• Maintain inventory and storage of sterile supplies
• Follow infection control guidelines (AAMI, AORN, OSHA)
• Communicate effectively with surgical and nursing teams
• Document sterilization cycles and quality control checks
• Assist with case cart assembly and distribution

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
• Basic computer and documentation skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Physical ability to lift and transport instruments and supplies
• Commitment to learning and achieving certification

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of or enrollment in a central sterile processing program preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Certification not required upon hire

Experience

• Previous experience in healthcare or sterile processing environment preferred
