Overview

The Senior Income Tax Accountant will support the tax department in the implementation of tax policies, procedures, internal controls and reporting. This role will work alongside the First Watch tax and accounting leadership team and help build and shape processes and policies that will support our growing organization. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740
  • Support tax footnote and internal reporting deliverables for SEC filings and audit support
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate internal controls for income taxes
  • Prepare and review complex federal and multi-state corporate income tax return workpapers and filings
  • Identify, propose and implement process improvements for income tax provision and compliance
  • Leverage technology (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx, tax software) to automate data flows, reduce manual work and enhance accuracy
  • Assist with tax research, modeling and planning initiatives to support business decisions
  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with tax filing deadlines
  • Coordinate and support external tax advisors in the preparation of consolidated tax returns
  • Assist in managing federal, state and local income tax audits
  • Work collaboratively with other corporate functions (e.g., internal audit, treasury, finance, licensing, legal, payroll)
  • Manage the retention of tax records and other required reports
  • Stay current on changes in federal and state income tax laws and regulations
  • Share technical knowledge and provide guidance on best practices for tax accounting and compliance
  • Foster a collaborative and continuous learning environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s in Accounting and/or CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years of related income tax experience at a public accounting firm and/or at a publicly traded corporation.  2+ years of income tax experience at a large public accounting firm
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740, SEC reporting and corporate tax compliance for large, multi-entity organizations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power BI
  • Experience with tax provision and compliance systems (e.g., OneSource, Corptax, Alteryx, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment
  • Excellent research and writing skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues and positions to both tax and non-tax or non-financial audiences
