Job Description

Position Title:

Salsa & Hip Hop Fusion Dance Teaching Artist

Site:

Farragut Career Academy (CPS)
Little Village – 22nd Ward

Schedule:

3 days per week (Mon/Tues/Wed)
4:00–5:30 PM
14-week residency: January 12 – April 30, 2026

Compensation:

$25–$50 per hour , based on experience
Includes paid weekly planning time

Program Size:

10–15 high school students (grades 9–12)

Program Goal:

Prepare students to perform a Salsa & Hip Hop fusion piece in the school talent show .

The People’s Center for Cultural & Contemporary Arts (PCCCArts) is a Chicago nonprofit dedicated to closing the opportunity gap in arts education. We partner with CPS schools and community organizations to provide high-quality programming in dance, music, visual arts, digital media, and STEAM.

At Farragut Career Academy, we are launching a culturally relevant, high-energy Salsa & Hip Hop Fusion dance program for high school students to build artistic skills, confidence, social-emotional growth, and community connection.

Position Summary

PCCCArts is seeking a dynamic, reliable, and culturally responsive Salsa & Hip Hop Fusion Teaching Artist to lead a 14-week after-school residency at Farragut Career Academy.

This program blends:

  • Salsa footwork & Afro-Latin movement
  • Hip Hop foundations & street dance styles

The ideal candidate:
✨ Connects well with high school youth
✨ Is bilingual (English/Spanish) or comfortable in bilingual settings
✨ Has strong classroom management
✨ Uses culture as a foundation for teaching
✨ Can choreograph a showcase piece for the school talent show

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Salsa & Hip Hop Fusion dance to grades 9–12.
  • Incorporate warm-ups, technique, rhythm training, musicality, and choreography.
  • Create a structured, positive, identity-affirming classroom environment.
  • Develop choreography for the school talent show showcase .
  • Support students’ social-emotional and cultural learning.
  • Communicate consistently with PCCCArts and Farragut staff.
  • Attend check-ins, PD, and observations as needed.
  • Ensure safe use of mirrors, speakers, and any available equipment.

QualificationsRequired

  • Experience teaching Salsa, Latin dance, Hip Hop, or Afro-diasporic movement.
  • Strong classroom management skills for high school students.
  • Reliable availability Mon/Tues/Wed, 4:00–5:30 PM .
  • Cultural responsiveness and ability to connect with students from Little Village.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, and strong communication.

Preferred

  • Experience in CPS or school-based programs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience preparing youth for performances.
  • Familiarity with SEL, restorative practices, or trauma-informed methods.

Compensation

  • $25–$50 per hour
  • Paid weekly planning time
  • Additional opportunities with PCCCArts may be available throughout the year
