JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Medical Technologist/Technician, the Lab Assistant is responsible for performing preparatory portions of laboratory tests and assisting the technical/professional laboratory staff in completing analytical processes. The Lab Assistant will work to facilitate the through put of STAT and inpatient workload in the assigned Laboratory areas, such as Chemistry, Hematology, Histology, or Microbiology. The Lab Assistant will assist with orientation and training of other employees when requested. Lab Assistant will follow universal precautions on all duties of the job, follow the requirements and use proper techniques involved in the care and use of equipment and will perform other duties as assigned or as needed, within reasonable expectations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Graduate or equivalent
Prefer completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program or completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification program.
Phlebotomy Technician Certification by ASCP (PBT) or AMT (PBT) or equivalent approved certifications is required.
Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification is desired.
