Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Inpatient Facility Coder to ensure accurate and compliant coding of inpatient medical records. This role involves analyzing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and DRG codes while adhering to industry standards and regulations.

• Review and interpret clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and DRG codes for inpatient records
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, payer-specific policies and organizational guidelines
• Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation and optimize coding accuracy
• Identify opportunities for documentation improvement and communicate findings to the CDI team
• Participate in audits and quality assurance reviews to maintain high coding standards
• Stay current with coding updates, regulations and best practices
• Utilize coding software and electronic medical record (EMR) systems efficiently

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
• Certification in medical coding (e.g., CCS, RHIT, RHIA) is required
• 2+ years of coding experience, specifically in inpatient facility coding
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG methodologies and regulatory compliance
• Familiarity with EMR systems, such as EPIC, Cerner or similar platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
