Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Fleet Mechanic - Bus Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of state-owned school buses to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of South Carolina’s students. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. This position will be part-time, up to 30 hours per week, and candidate must be located in Beaufort, SC.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of experience in automotive or diesel maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within six (6) months of hire.
Essential Functions:
Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on school buses and related equipment.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and air conditioning.
Conduct safety inspections in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Maintain accurate service and repair records using maintenance software and documentation standards.
Assist in identifying and ordering parts and supplies needed for repairs.
Ensure compliance with SCDE and Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards.
Respond to service calls and perform roadside repairs as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
