A high school assistant football coach helps the head coach run the program, focusing on player skill development, practice/game planning, and ensuring athletes meet academic/behavioral standards, while supervising them during all activities, including travel. Duties involve coaching specific positions, running drills, managing equipment, analyzing video, and promoting the program within the school and community, all while upholding athletic association rules and fostering good sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Coaching & Player Development:
- Assist in designing and implementing practice and game plans.
- Coach a specific position group (e.g., offense, defense, special teams).
- Assess player skills, monitor performance, and provide feedback.
- Motivate players to reach their full potential.
- Program Operations:
- Help organize and manage equipment and facilities.
- Supervise athletes during practices, games, and travel (including bus rides).
- Maintain a clean and organized locker room.
- Conduct video analysis and instructional sessions.
- Rules & Eligibility:
- Ensure compliance with school and state athletic association rules.
- Monitor academic progress and enforce eligibility requirements.
- Team & Community Relations:
- Develop and enforce team rules with players and parents.
- Promote a positive image for the program through community and media engagement.
- Model good sportsmanship and appropriate conduct.
- Leadership Support:
- Support the head coach's philosophy and strategy.
- Step in for the head coach as needed.

- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
