Carmen Schools of Science & Technology is pleased to open our search for a Building Substitute Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year!

Campus Opening(s): Southeast High School

Salary: $44,000 yearly

POSITION SUMMARY

A building substitute supports the Carmen community to live out the value that every minute matters! Our building substitutes are critical to the success of our students through providing coverage in classrooms and executing on lesson plans designed by teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Absolute belief in the ability of all students to learn and achieve and commitment to ending educational inequity in Milwaukee.
2. Associate's Degree
3. Licensure issued by Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction (or eligibility for such licensure). Click here for more information on a Short-Term Substitute Teacher license:  (
4. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
5. Ability to understand, apply and use computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
6. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
7. Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with all students, especially those students with special needs.
8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work “team player mentality”.
9. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
10. Ability to communicate effectively in written or verbal forms.
11. Ability to perform duties in a positive, professional manner
12. Proficient in Spanish 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Instructional Flexibility to Support Student Growth

1. Provide in house subbing by executing on lesson plans designed by teachers to ensure instructional continuity
2. When coverage is not needed, push in to classrooms to provide small group or one on one interventions
3. Monitor students during Advisory periods as needed
4. Support parent communication via attendance phone calls
5. Demonstrate, monitor, and encourage positive student behaviors and enforce school rules
6. Reinforce appropriate social and communication skills
7. Administer make-up tests and lessons to students.

Classroom Responsibilities:

1. Provide daily instruction and assist with preparation and clean-up of materials.
2. Interact with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Communicate all relevant concerns about students to the teacher and to school leaders, as applicable.
4. Observes and monitors student activities in a classroom setting.
5. Maintain order and build upon a positive classroom community.

Supportive Responsibilities:

1. Check attendance, seating charts, and ascertain the whereabouts of absent students.
2. Escorts students to and from specials and lunch as required by the age of students.
3. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position will work predominantly Monday – Friday during school hours; however, this position may require work on an occasional evening as necessary.
